Considering energy consumption, assuming a penetration rate of 100% in EU28, rather than the current penetration rate of 47%, the potential savings from using a dishwasher compared to washing up by hand would be approximately 92 TWh/year, which is twice the electricity consumption of Portugal, and 3% of the total EU28 electricity consumption in 20151.
